New challenges face expanding resourcing teams in 2008

24 January 2008

2008 has started in busy fashion for Aspen Partners the international provider of recruitment staff. Managing Director Andy Mountney commented, “After a hectic 2007 a lot of people thought the start to 2008 would be an uncertain time but we have enjoyed unprecedented demand for recruitment staff from senior management roles in global well known brands through to SMEs hiring their first recruiter. Whether for growth or as seems more likely cost save on external agency spend organisations seem to be taking a bullish stance on growing their recruitment functions at the beginning of the year.”

Candidates have also taken to the New Year looking for a new challenge, with Apsen’s Aoife McKenna noted a particular trend, “We are finding a lot of experienced internal recruiters see 2008 as a year to take on more responsibility in their roles. The focus is on delivering direct hiring strategies for their firms with the expectation of being well rewarded for the savings they and their teams make, we’re seeing a really strong flow of talent coming to market.”

Typically Aspen Partners has found demand from well known corporate brands is strongest across sector with vacancies typically being for experienced internal recruitment professionals only. Andrew though also predicted a new growth area, “We’re starting to see in demand in SMEs across sectors. These firms are waking up to their sometime ad hoc recruitment planning and large agency spend and want to bring in an enthusiastic direct recruiter or manager who will set up proper recruitment processes and manage growth. Right now there are some of the most exciting opportunities in the market to shape recruitment that we’ve seen for some time.”

Growth may not be a driving factor for recruitment in the UK in 2008 but it is clear that the demand for efficiency and value for money from recruitment will keep resourcing on the corporate agenda.
